COCHLEAR

As the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, Cochlear has provided more than 650,000 implantable devices, helping people of all ages to hear and connect with life’s opportunities. Our story started over four decades ago when Australian Professor Graeme Clark pioneered the world’s first multi-channel cochlear implant and created an entirely new treatment for hearing loss.

As an ear surgeon, Professor Clark saw firsthand the isolation and frustration that comes from living in a world of silence as his father struggled with hearing difficulties. On holiday in 1977, fiddling with a shell and a blade of grass, Professor Clark realized there was a safe way to insert electrodes into the inner ear. It was his determination to help others that realized our first implantable solution reconnecting his patient Rod Saunders to hearing ― bringing music into his life.

Since then, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people in more than 180 countries connect to the sounds that give life its vibrancy – whether it’s a word spoken, a bell rung or a note played. Professor Clark’s initial focus on the needs of people and pioneering spirit remains in our DNA to this day. That’s why we are so proud that more people choose Cochlear than any other hearing implant company.

Cathy, a Nucleus® System recipient, described her experience as "My cochlear implants gave me the freedom to live my life the way it was meant to be lived! With hearing aids, I heard in black and white, whereas with cochlear implants, I hear colors! Today, I am happy to say that I am very proud, very blessed, and there is nothing that I cannot do!”

Like Cathy, our recipients each have their own story and reasons for pursuing a hearing implant. Lindsay, wife of a Nucleus® System recipient, shared the impact her husband’s implant had on their family saying, “We look forward to the future of his new hearing capabilities. I am thrilled my kids will be able to communicate with their Daddy and those moments of silence will be far and few. We are thankful for [the] technology and Cochlear for being part of our journey!”.

For over 40 years, Cochlear has embraced the privilege of supporting lifelong hearing and we are proud to continue to promote the importance of hearing health and the impact of implantable solutions. To learn more about Cochlear and implantable hearing solutions, visit our website
