    Biba, along with The City of Wanneroo, Satterley Property Group, Landcorp, and The Playground Centre, took home gold at the 2018 NGAA Awards in the ‘Creating Value through Growth’ category, for the development and installation of Australia’s first Biba ‘smart playground’ at Kinkuna Park in the Eglinton Estate of Allara.

    Rolande Souliere
    Solo Exhibition at the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver
    April 5 – August 25, 2019

    Rolande Souliere was born in Toronto and is Anishinaabe and member of the Michipicoten First Nation. She became a contemporary artist after migrating to Australia in the late nineties. She currently splits her time between Australia and Canada.

    Her solo exhibition at the Contemporary Art Gallery, presented across the gallery’s two public spaces—the street level windows along the Nelson St and Richard St facades, and off-site at the nearby Yaletown-Roundhouse train Station—draws from an extensive body of work that uses materials associated with the mapping and marking of space, such as road barriers, caution tape, and traffic signage, to consider land claims (both settled and unsettled), borders, territories, and sovereignty, and how colonial infrastructures have impacted spaces and the people within them. For this highly visible, public art opportunity, Souliere will wrap the train station pavilion and gallery façade in a highly reflective barrier tape, using the colour symbolism of the four directions of the earth in Indigenous culture.

    At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Sport Climbing will be included for the first time. There are only 20 male and 20 female spots globally available to climbers; and likely only one spot per gender available to Continental Oceania (Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia combined).

    Competitive rockclimber Tiffany Melius' goal is to be that one woman.

    MIKTA Seminar: “Middle Powers’ Role in the Era of Confrontations Among Major Powers”

    MIKTA is an innovative partnership that brings together Mexico, Indonesia, Republic of Korea (ROK), Turkey and Australia. The group works to bridge divides in the multilateral system and build consensus on complex and challenging issues, drawing on the diverse perspectives of its members and their shared interest in an effective, rules-based global order.  In conjunction with SFU and the Asia Pacific Foundation, the MIKTA partners will be holding a seminar on Tuesday, September 18th from 10am-1:30pm at the SFU’s Segal Centre to discuss the role of Middle Powers at a time of increasing confrontations among the major powers.  Register here.  .

    Resources giant BHP last night pressed the button on a new $4.7 billion iron ore mine in the Pilbara which it says will employ 2500 people during construction and 600 when operational.

    The announcement came as further evidence emerged that the WA jobs market is finally starting to stir, with the strongest growth in new positions in five years and signs more people are looking for work and taking on extra hours
